Flag of Remembrance

Part of the permanent collection of large works at the 9/11 Memorial Museum. The Flag was created 2001-2004, it is a tribute to the victims and the families impacted by the tragic events of 9/11. Photographs were transferred to fabric and pieced by machine. Stars in blue field were hand appliqué onto an indigo dyed cotton fabric. If a photograph was not provided by a family member or friend, I used a memorial candle in its place. Every individual lost on that horrific day is represented and their name and age appears below each image.

Quilt measures 22 ft x 26 ft.

Protection Pollution

In 2020 as we navigated our way through the pandemic and watched helplessly as the number of deaths from co-vid climbed around the world, we turned to face masks as a source of protection. It wasn’t long before a new environmental hazard emerged. Carelessly discarded masks started showing up everywhere. In the streets, on the beach, at the park. This piece was completed towards the end of 2020. It is made up of 550 photographs, each image representing 1000 lives lost to Co-vid in the US alone. At the time it was completed, the US had lost 550,000 people. Today, that number has more than doubled.
